Entry Formalities & Visa requirements

Till date there are some exceptions to Indian, Bangladeshi & Maldivian nationalities while travelling to Bhutan, they don’t need to obtain and visa neither they have to pay any surcharge.

Entry to Bhutan

Bhutan is accessible by air from Delhi, Kolkata, Singapore, Thailand and Kathmandu by Druk air and Bhutan airlines, other surface road are well connected to board town of India.

By Air (Only operating flights are durk air & bhutan airlines connected to limited hubs)

Bhutan has only one International Airport located in Paro valley in western Bhutan. There are 3 domestic airports with in Bhutan, which include Paro (international), Bumthang, and Gelephug. The airline services operates out of 6 countries and 12 city hub, these includes connects flight to and from Dhaka, Bangladesh, Kathmandu, Nepal, Bangkok, Thailand, and Singapore. Drukair also travels to Bagdogra, Delhi, Gaya, Kolkata, and Guwahati, India.

By Road (Surface)

One can enter Bhutan through different boarder gates known as - Phutnosholing & Gelephu (boarders to Indian state of West Bengal), nearby Airport is (Bagdogra Airport) and nearby Railways station is (NJP new jalpaiguri) & Sandrup Jongkhar (Boarder to Indian State of Assam) close by airport is Guwahati Airport.

There are provision of on demand flights on charter from metro city in India.

Visitors Permit to Bhutan

One must avail a visitor’s permit before travelling to Bhutan the same can be obtained in advance or during entry to Bhutan.

Documentation & Entry Formaliteis

Entry Formalities (Applicable for guest from india, bengaldesh & maldives)

Travellers from India (Indian Nationals), Bangladesh (Bangladeshi Nationals) and Maldives (Maldivian Nationals) neither need to pay the government royalty nor need a Bhutan visa to travel to Bhutan. They only need to obtain an entry permit to visit Bhutan.

If you are entering Bhutan via land (Phuentsholing) you have to process your entry permit in the immigration office in Phuentsholing (for this guest needs to be in queue & may take hours also). Our team in Bhutan - will do the formalities for you. Documents required at the time of process:

  • Valid passport / Voter id. (Original + Photo Copy)
  • For kids Birth certificate is mandatory that too written in English (Original + Photo Copy)
  • Two numbers of passport size photograph

New stystem for online entry formalities (applicable for guest from india, bengaldesh & maldives)

This system is newly introduced for travelers from India, Bangladesh and Maldives where in this you all have to take a licenced guide for throughout the travel and e-permit needs to be applied by local tour operator a minimum 04 working days is required to get permit:

For travellers landing at Paro (Bhutan) Airport permit/visa will be issued at the Paro international Airport on arrival.

Travelling beyond Thimphu i.e. Punakha/Wangdue, etc, also require a special permit known as Route Permit. The Route Permit is processed and issued in Thimphu. It can be applied only after entering in Bhutan and after producing the Entry Permit which travellers obtain on arrival.

Immigration office will remain closed during weekends, during holidays (government as well as local government.
